The mission of the Ranson Police Department is to protect and serve our community in a professional manner with integrity and respect. We are committed to maintaining peace, upholding the law, and ensuring the safety of all residents, visitors, and businesses within our community. The Ranson Police Department is located at 700. N Preston Street. Not only do members of the Ranson Police Department provide coverage within Ranson, but they also provide support to the regional Eastern Panhandle Violent Crimes and Drug Task Force. Officers provide small-town community policing, while offering services available in larger police organizations. Our Department is supported and supports other surrounding jurisdictions, by mutual aid agreements with the City of Charles Town, Jefferson County Sheriff and West Virginia State Police.

Beginning a challenging career as a Police Officer with the Ranson Police Department starts by completing an application and taking the written and physical agility tests. Applications are accepted at any time. Applicants who have turned in an application to Police Department will be notified once the next test date is scheduled.

Garage / Yard Sale Permit
Yard Sale Permits can be obtained at the Ranson Police Department. There is a $5 fee for the permit.
Accident & Criminal Reports
To obtain an accident or criminal report, please come in during business hours. There is a $20 fee for all reports.

Traffic Citations
Please make sure to use defendant’s full name, mailing and email address, and birthdate; the citation number found at the top right corner of the physical citation; and the fine amount associated with the charges. If the citation holder is unsure of the fine amount, please refer to the “Fine List” on the payments landing page or call the court line at (304)724-3870. Call this number for general court-related questions or email trafficcourt@ransonwv.us.

Open Burning Notice Ordinance
Section 10-4 of the Ranson Municipal Code (Open Burning Prohibited) This section of the city ordinance deals with open burning within the city limits of Ranson, WV. Section 10-4 (a) state’s “The open air burning of refuse for the purpose of volume reduction, elimination or product recovery by any person, firm, corporation, association, or public agency is prohibited”. Section 10-4 (2) states “Fires set for the purpose of bona fide instruction and training of public and industrial employees and members of the volunteer fire departs in the methods of fighting fires, provided that approval to conduct such burning is received and approved as a special activity permit”. Section 10-4 (3) states ” Open burning of construction and demolition waste, provided that all of the following conditions are met and approval to conduct such burning is received and approved as a special activity permit”.
